Web publishers have frowned upon the move, saying ad revenue pays for their sites. Overall, though, the benefits of its browser are similar on both mobile OSes, according to Adblock Plus. The iOS version offers many of the ad-blocking features found in its Android counterpart, but also provides better scrolling compared to Safari, easier bookmarking and an improved keyboard, Adblock Plus said. However, Adblock Plus didn't say how its browser would be superior to an ad-blocking feature that's native to iOS.ĪdBlock Plus referenced the arrival of Safari's ad-blocking abilities in the blog post, saying its browser permits the function immediately while it may not appear in Apple's browser for weeks. On Wednesday, Apple is expected to release iOS 9, which will allow users to block ads in the Safari browser of iPhones and iPads. The timing of AdBlock Plus for iOS, which is available from the Apple App Store, is notable. Developing the browser for Apple's mobile OS was important given the platform's popularity, especially in the U.S., he added. This is the first time an Adblock Plus app has been offered for iOS, Faida said. Other features offered by the browser include the ability to disable tracking and to create whitelists of websites that can show ads. In turn, this lets people cut down on battery and data usage, according to Adblock Plus. So sometimes if you encounter crash during browsing, you can try disabling Adblock Plus to see whether it is fixed. However, some custom rules may cause incompatibilities with the browser, thus causing the crash. In a news release, Till Faida, co-founder of AdBlock Plus, said he was "grateful" to have the app back in the Play Store.Īdblock Plus claims its browser loads web pages faster than other browsers since it blocks ads, which can take a while to load. Adblock Plus is a powerful feature in Maxthon browser, with which you can not only filter ads but customize your filter rules. Het ligt niet voor de hand dat andere browsers snel zullen volgen. Maxthon is de eerste bekende browserbouwer die de extensie inbouwt in zijn browser. Maxthon heeft ons hier bij Softonic echt verrast. The download file shared below is free from virus/malware, and it’s completely safe to download & use. If you are an Internet Explorer user who wants more options, however, or are just interested in life beyond Mozilla, give Maxthon a try. Maxthon Classic is een Internet Explorer -gebaseerde browser die u de mogelijkheid geeft om een breken met de grote twee van internetten. Below, we have shared the latest version of the Maxthon browser for PC. If you like a simple browsing experience, or are a big fan of your Firefox add-ons, Maxthon probably isn't for you (although there are a good selection of Maxthon add-ons). It would take a very long time to detail all of Maxthon's options, so suffice to say that as well as the standard ones (tab behavior, display, encoding), there are a multitude of other features, from content control to image and script disabling, an in-built ad-blocker, auto form-filler and advanced screenshot function. In fact, some of the options are quite complex, and you might want to take a look at the user manual before jumping straight in. If things are beginning to sound a bit crowded, you can disable most, leaving the whole Maxthon interface much cleaner. These options, including the standard File, View, and Tools types, can be found in the Menu Bar, while there are even more in the lower Status bar. This means they are easy to see and modify, which is just as well, as there are so many of them. Maxthon generally opens its configuration options in new tabs, rather than windows.

![]() Step One: We placed our stain swatches into standardized loads of laundry. ![]() To ensure that our test results were consistent, we used mechanically dyed swatches that are covered in common household substances like sweat, oil, pig’s blood, red wine, and cocoa.Īll stains are carefully sourced-for example, all the red wine is made in the same vineyard and all the blood comes from the same breed of pig. We tested all the detergents in the Maytag MVWC565FW, a high-efficiency washing machine, on the Normal cycle with warm (not hot) water. When it came to testing detergents for sensitive skin, I wanted a product that balanced non-irritating ingredients and stain removal performance. It’s my job to test and write about products ranging from coolers to laundry detergents. I’m Jon Chan, the senior lab technician at Reviewed. If you’ve found every other soap to be irritating, you should check out this simpler detergent. On the other hand, Charlie’s Soap firmly stands in the hypoallergenic camp. In our testing, it removed 65% of testing stains, which is almost a full 10% less than Persil, our Best Overall detergent. In many cases, companies use harsh chemicals because they clean better so it’s not a big surprise that Charlie’s Soap is weaker than the competition. The major downside of Charlie’s Soap is in its simplicity. While did find some evidence that Alcohol Ethoxylates (C12-16)-one of three active ingredients in Charlie’s Soap Laundry Liquid-can cause skin irritation, the concentration is very low in this detergent. It also has the EPA’s Safe Choice seal-an award given to products that are environmentally sound and contain no harmful chemicals. Ingredients of concern: Alcohol Ethoxylates (C12-16)Ĭharlie’s Soap Laundry Liquid is probably the most hypoallergenic of any in our guide, containing mostly washing soda. Our testing and research tell us that consumers looking for detergent free of fragrances and dyes should start with All first. While All Free & Clear did not ace all of our tests, it did well enough across the board to uphold its reputation. It did quite well against protein stains, but lagged behind when it came to oil. On the stain removal front, it fell into the middle of the pack, removing an average of 71.8% of all stains. If you’re sensitive to detergent smells, All Free & Clear has you covered. On a more positive note, our testers also found that it has one of the most neutral scents. Multiple studies have shown it to be a known irritant that can cause allergic reactions. Sodium Laureth Sulfate, sometimes known as SLES, is of bigger concern. Pareth-9 has been labeled non-irritating by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel-a consumer safety group that includes dermatologists and toxicologists. The major cleaning agents are C12-15 Pareth-9 and Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Of all the detergents we researched and tested, All Free & Clear had the second-fewest skin irritatants in the ingredient list. Ingredients of concern: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate In exchange for having more harsh chemicals than most free-and-clear detergents, you’re getting a superior clean. Persil Sensitive Skin balances hypoallergenic laundry detergents with the standard set we’ve been familiar with for years. There is also some concern about Propylene Glycol, prolonged exposure to which could cause contact dermatitis. Most notable was Sodium Borate, also known as borax, which can cause skin irritation. While testing showed its cleaning capacities, we had some concerns over some of the ingredients. That might not sound like much, but over the course of 64 loads-the amount inside a single bottle-it really adds up. Overall, it removed about 76.8% of all testing stains-1.5% more stains than Tide Free & Gentle. Those who like to cook will enjoy that our testing showed Persil did best against red wine and protein stains. We also appreciate that it is formulated to work in cold water. When we opened the Sensitive Skin bottle, we mercifully found a very mild scent. One of our major complaints about the original Persil was its cloying aroma. We like this version of Persil over the regular ProClean. 1 spot in our best laundry detergent roundup. When it comes to the best laundry detergents for sensitive skin, Persil ProClean Sensitive Skin came out on top in our cleaning tests. Ingredients of concern: Sodium Borate, Polyethyleneimine Ethoxylates, Alcohol Ethoxysulfates, Propylene Glycol I already knew and loved Toni Morrison, but have since been reading Claudia Rankine, Ta-Nehisi Coates, bell hooks, Rebecca Roanhorse and Tommy Orange. I’ve tried to read more writers from marginalized communities. Then when I learned Arabic, I read it in the original, and now I write about it in my dissertation. I first read it in Hebrew translation, and it shook me to my core, as it narrates the history of Palestine/Israel from a perspective I was taught not to see. A novel that has left a lasting impact on me is Elias Khoury’s Gate of the Sun. Today I’m much more critical of his approach to politics, but I do still love his writing. When I was young the Hebrew poet Yehuda Amichai was my favorite writer, thanks to his ability to describe everyday experiences as poetic revelations. N.L.: What author or book has impacted you personally or professionally that you would like to share or recommend? Why? And I suppose the common theme of the books I mentioned is identity in crisis, struggles of belonging, which is certainly something I write about and think about a lot. Baldwin is a great example of that, and Darwish is known mostly as a poet but I absolutely love his prose writing. As for literature, I tend to gravitate towards poetic writing, even in prose. ![]() Y.K.: In terms of academic writing, I really appreciate and admire clear writing, which is very difficult to do. This brings me to my next question: is there a common theme in your book selections? Do you gravitate to any book genre and, if so, what? And why? His essay The Creative Process is one of my favorite pieces of literature. I have personally also found James Baldwin’s work to be exceptional. His essays provide a good historical map to the current Palestinian homeland situation, the loss felt by her people, and what it means to them, living within the walls of occupation. Mahmoud Darwish’s essays provide us with solemn and poignant insights into the Palestinian people. N.L.: Journal of Ordinary Grief is a wonderful collection of essays. I can't believe it's taken me this long to read it. A good friend of mine has always said it's her favorite book and I've finally gotten around to reading it. In addition, unrelated to my work I've been reading James Baldwin's Giovanni's Room. But then when I picked it up I couldn't put it down, so I've just kept on reading it long after I forgot what the footnote was about. As I was writing the introduction to my dissertation I mentioned this book in a footnote - I work on nationalism and mourning in Palestinian and Israeli literatures. Journal is intensely personal while also describing a collective pain that has become part of life. In it, Darwish chronicles the ongoing, almost mundane grief of Palestinians living in exile, suffering various forms of dispossession since 1948. It's a text that defies all genre categories as it oscillates between prose and poetry, documentary and fiction. Y.K.: This week, I've been reading Journal of Ordinary Grief by Palestinian writer Mahmoud Darwish. ![]() To start us off, what are you reading this week? ![]() N.L.: Good afternoon Yael thank you so much for doing this interview. Yael was interviewed by Nathan Liebetreu, a marketing and media intern at the Institute for the Humanities. ![]() You can make the ranch dressing up to 3 days in advance. I only recommend making the dressing element of this salad ahead of time. Make Ahead & Storage Make Ahead Instructions Most of my favourite equipment can be found on my storefront. This is what I used to make this recipe - Please be mindful that different equipment and cooking utensils may yield varying results. Blue cheese: If you are more of a fan of blue cheese dressing, feel free to use your favourite store-bought blue cheese dressing, or this homemade blue cheese dressing too!.Fiesta ranch: Instead of this classic ranch dressing, switch it up with homemade salsa ranch!.Whole milk: You can use buttermilk, or half and half cream in place of whole milk.Sour cream: Substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt, for a similar tangy flavour.Thick cut bacon: Feel free to use turkey bacon, pancetta, or even omit the bacon for a fully vegetarian recipe.Iceberg lettuce: You can use romaine, or bibb lettuce instead of iceberg lettuce, if you prefer. If your tomatoes are very seedy or watery, remove the seeds with a spoon before dicing the tomatoes. The easiest way to cut bacon into lardons is to cut it straight out of the fridge, or to put it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes prior to cutting it. It is easiest to cut cold bacon! Because of the fat content of bacon, if it is left out for too long, or comes into extended contact with your hands, it will soften. Spices and herbs: You will need garlic and onion powder, fresh dill, and chives.Ī full list of ingredients with measurements is located on the recipe card, below.I still recommend using full fat sour cream, as the texture is thicker compared to reduced fat varieties. Sour cream: Sour cream adds a good tang to the dressing, and cuts some of the fattiness of the mayonnaise. For that reason, I recommend using a good quality mayonnaise that you know and love. Mayonnaise: This ranch dressing is mayonnaise based. You can use reduced sodium, regular cut, or just your favourite bacon variety. Thick cut bacon: I like to use thick cut bacon for this salad, as it adds good chunks of meatiness as a topping, even after crisped. They add more substance, without too much liquid of mushiness. Beefsteak tomatoes: I recommend using a firmer variety of tomatoes, such as hot house or beefsteak.Iceberg lettuce: Iceberg lettuce is the ideal lettuce for a wedge salad, as it has good surface area when quartered, a neutral flavour, and a great crunch element. You likely have everything you need in the fridge and pantry, to have this on the table today! Ingredients The flavours are bright, and creamy!Īpproachable ingredients! You do not need to go out of your way to purchase fancy ingredients for this salad. No fancy prep work is required to make this steakhouse inspired salad.įlavourful dressing! This salad, unlike a lot of steakhouse wedge salads, is dressed with an herbaceous ranch dressing instead of a blue cheese dressing. Minimal prep work! One of the best things about wedge salads is how low effort and low maintenance they are. Dressed with a delicious homemade ranch dressing instead of classic blue cheese, this salad comes together in under 15 minutes! Served with a perfectly seared steak, and creamy mashed potatoes, the steakhouse can come straight to your kitchen! Jump to: I also might add cubed chicken to make it a full meal, instead of a side salad.A steakhouse style wedge salad is a classic side dish, that is incredibly simple to make at home! Fresh, crisp lettuce gets topped with salty, crunchy bacon, and ripe, sweet tomatoes. I like to change out the walnuts for pine nuts once in a while. Really, you can top the salad with whatever ingredients you want, but the classic version has just tomatoes, bacon, walnuts, and blue cheese. Other great salads we love are this Golden Beet Salad with Toasted Spice Vinaigrette, Pear Gorgonzola Salad, Fennel, Avocado and Blood Orange Salad and this amazing Cobb Salad that makes a full dinner on its own. While it’s not a particularly “light” salad, in terms of calories, it’s a playful and fun addition to the meal. The crisp, fresh iceberg lettuce has perfect summer appeal. If you’re looking for a great summer salad, the classic wedge salad is always the winner. I can even forgive it for being a little difficult to eat, because it’s so beautiful when it’s all dressed up. I like to load it up with all the toppings – tomatoes, walnuts, bacon. It’s the only thing I ever serve with my Tri Tip Steak. For me, it’s still one of the best side dishes for a steak. The wedge salad made a name for itself being served alongside hunks of meat at high-end steakhouses. ![]() Phasmophobia can be played solo or multiplayer if you wish to play with your friends, you can create a private lobby from the main menu.
